“Life is too short to waste any amount of time on wondering what other people think about you. In the first place, if they had better things going on in their lives, they wouldn’t have the time to sit around and talk about you. What’s important to me is not others’ opinions of me, but what’s important to me is my opinion of myself.” – C. JoyBell C.
Self-love, Is it a deep term? Some would say no, it is a crystal clear word. For many people, this is a word used to describe a person who is vain or too absorbed in themselves to bother with anyone else. Well, this is where most people of our society have it wrong!
What people don’t realize is that self-love is not a bad thing. Sometimes and in some situations self-love is a compulsion without which it might be really difficult to deal with a particular situation or scenario. First let us describe for you what self-love is. According to Wikipedia, Self Love it is “a moral flaw, akin to selfishness and vanity”. While this may be true in some cases, we cannot apply this definition to everyone. So let’s rephrase it like this: Self-love is a person’s regard for their own well-being and happiness.
Now tell us friends, what is wrong with this? After all isn’t this what we all want? We’re all running after our own different types of goals, but the ultimate goal that we all want to reach is happiness. That is what we all strive for in the duration of our lifetime. So what is wrong with having a little self-love? Self-love is a vital part of the world today and a highly important component of your everyday life if you want to live a life filled with contentment. Phrases like “no one will love you if you don’t love yourself “are something that we listen to almost every day. All those friends of yours advising you about such things are right! You do need to love your own self before giving your love to someone else.
How do you do that? Well, it is not that difficult honestly. Self-love just involves being happy and content. Will wearing that dress make you feel good? Great, wear it out today! From eating out to getting a makeover, do whatever makes you feel good about yourself and you will reach the point where you start loving yourself. This will be the point in your life where you will not take anyone’s shit. You will be able to make decisions and will finally be able to step out of your shell. This is the point when you will start your journey towards success. Being able to stand for one’s own self is something that goes along with self-love.
Only if you value your own opinions will you be able to convince other people to value them as well. However, one thing that you need to consider while doing this is that never let this self-love convert into vanity. There is a very fine line between the two and make sure you never ever cross this threshold to go to the other side. Because vanity never pleases anybody, not even the person who owns it. So be careful. Yes, do love yourself enough to know when it is time to get out of a sticky situation, but don’t overdo it or else you might end up driving away the people who genuinely care about you.
